Why Xplore
Xplore focuses heavily on customer needs and feedback as well as market and technology trends to define and design rugged mobile computers. In working directly with end users, client project teams, component vendors and industry experts over the years, it is clear that there is a tremendous demand for a new approach to rugged pen-based computing. From this information Xplore has identified 5 key needs for our customers:
- Ruggedization - Durability and reliability
- Visualization Conditions - Indoor/outdoor and direct sunlight use
- Versatile Docking - Vehicles, fork trucks, mobile carts
- Flexible Product Designs - Stand alone ink input portable, with onboard or external keyboard or mouse, touch or active RF pen
- Lower TCO and Measurable ROI - Lower overall Total Cost of Ownership over product lifecycle and potential for greater ROI
Xplore has concentrated on these key needs and used leading-edge technology to address them. The result of these efforts is a customer approved family of products that crosses several vertical markets. These products provide our customers with the highest probability of success in achieving their goals and objectives while using the system.
TCO of Rugged Tablets
Founded by Harvard and MIT graduates, Venture Development Corporation (VDC), is an independent market research and strategy-consulting firm that specializes in a number of mobile and wireless IT markets. Recent market analysis by VDC, reveals rugged mobile computers continue to achieve a favorable total cost of ownership (TCO) position in comparison to non-rugged mobile computers for many mission-critical applications. Key findings of the research are:
- Customers who deploy rugged tablet PCs vs non-rugged devices experience 30% lower total cost of ownership
- Annual hardware maintenance/warranty costs are 34% cheaper than non-rugged devices
- Rugged tablet PCs will last 39% longer than non-rugged devices
- The failure rate of rugged tablet PCs is 41% lower than non-rugged devices
- Organizations experience 35% lower productivity loss with rugged tablets vs non-rugged devices
VDC's research provides data that confirms the TCO of rugged PCs is lower than non-rugged PCs. The organization also recommends that end users evaluate rugged or semi-rugged mobile computers for applications that have a higher degree of mission criticality where device failure can have negative consequences to operational processes, customer service effectiveness and efficiency, and potentially revenues.
Lower Cost of Ownership
Over a typical product lifespan, Xplore's rugged Tablet PCs outperform their mobile computing counterparts.
- Longer Lifecycle - The rugged design of the iX104C2 helps extend the life of the unit, protecting it from damage that would take a normal computer out of commission
- Reduced Failure Rates – The failure rate of Xplore’s Tablet PCs is half that of commercial grade mobile computers, reducing the skyrocket cost associated with repairing equipment
- Reduced User Downtime - Users need to trust that their equipment will be there for them. If it's not, productivity can suffer
Beyond Durability
Xplore Tablet PCs are designed to meet the needs of mobile enterprise users, while providing rugged features that protect and extend the system's lifespan and enhance reliability.
- Rugged Construction - Over 30 unique rugged characteristics counteract and minimize damage in harsh environments or if the iX104 is dropped, struck, or exposed to constant vibration. A multi-layered magnesium housing with a bumper system, the iX104C2 Tablet PC can operate in places that other computers can’t
- MIL-STD 810F Tested - iX104C2 Tablet PC is engineered, third party tested, and warranted to US Military Standards
- MIL- STD 810F for environmental extremes - These standards are designed to test a device’s ability to survive in harsh conditions throughout its expected service life
Easy Deployment
The iX104 Tablet PC uses technology and a form factor familiar to most users and IT managers.
- User Adoption - With its intuitive "pen and paper" feel, the iX104C2 Tablet PC can lower the learning curve and provide more ready access to applications and data
- Windows XP Tablet PC Edition - An advanced operating system that can run application software available for Windows XP and provides natural handwriting recognition capabilities
- Standardized Hardware - By selecting a common Intel chipset across mobile devices, IT managers can use a single image across all form factors, reducing qualification and management costs
Positive Return on Investment
Businesses can potentially realize greater return on their investment with Xplore's rugged Tablet PCs.
- Increased Productivity - Mobilizing workers can lead to higher end-user satisfaction, more accurate decision making, and greater efficiency in the field
- Lower Technical Support Costs - Durability reduces support related to damaged units and the Microsoft Windows platform provides a high level of compatibility with applications and peripherals
