The Emergency Communications Center handles the job of coordinating and dispatching emergency vehicles among separate fire departments that are often called on to support one another. "It is very important to us that we are sending the closest appropriate resource," says Dwight Purtle, Technical Systems Manager. "Closest not in terms of distance, but in travel time. So if someone happens to be out in the field and closer to that call than the nearest station, we want to find that crew and send them."
